I have a 1955 model diesel major . When i start the engine from cold the engine oil pressure goes up to about 20 pounds but after running for about 15 minutes it goes up to about 35 pounds and it stays for a couple of hours cant understand it only goes up to 20 but when it warms up goes up to 35.

Try blocked strainer in the sump. When the oil heats up it will flow through easier.

HUW In addition to a plugged screen another possibility is the pressure relief piston. It is seated by the pressure of a spring. If the cylinder that the piston moves up and down in has varnish or carbon in it, it is possible that when heated the spring is able to move the piston, closing(in part) the passage directing oil back into the sump (oil pan). Thus a rise in pressure. Nothing in my book identifies what normal oil pressure should be. Another forum participant may be able to help with a pressure figure.
