Can any one help me. I have an old Fordson tractor and I can"t work out what model it is. It has Fordson Major written on the cast iron radiator. The beltdrive for chaff cutter is on the side of it. H23N is written on the gearbox bell housing. The motor is a 6 cyl Petters diesel. I need to order manuals and parts for it so I need to give it a model. Thanks

Hello,
The number that you quoted is a casting number and it gives the exact day that the housing was made. The H represents the month wich is June, 23 the day and N the year of 1949. This would make the tractor an E27N Fordson. The engine you mention is a Perkins P6 TA which is a factory option on the E27N Fordsons from 1949 onwards and was also fitted to earlier models as a conversion kit. The standard tractor was fitted with a 4 cylinder side valve Petrol Kero or Petrol engine. I hope this helps.

Regards, Frank.

Think you have got a Perkins powered E27N Major built from around 1945 to 1951
