Was having a discussion to-day with my neighbor comparing my Super with his MF35. If I remember right, when I purchased my Super in 1963 , the salesman told me that the Super had a heavier flywheel than the '35 and thus slightly more horsepower. Would that be correct? He also said that the Perkins factory was across the road from the Fordson factory , would this also be correct ?

The 35 had a Perkins engine designed by Perkins. The Super Dexta had a Ford designed/modified engine made by Perkins.

Ford made all the major castings at Dagenham which is some 100 miles from Peterborough so as to being "just across the road" it depends on your point of view. Perkins did an assembly job and provided some of the minor parts.

Flywheels had little to do with horsepower. The Ford had a better fuel system than the Perkins and this is where the power came from. (And the Ford is a better tractor all round IMHO)(I have owned a 35 and worked with Duper Dexta's).

Thankyou Majorman - It's great to know more about the Super! They are great tractors. My hourmeter broke 30 yrs ago at 3378 hrs but the tach still works so I can only guess at the actual hours on this machine! So Peterborough is the location of the Perkins plant and Dagenham is the location of the Ford plant? Incidently,I inherited a 1964 5000 Super Major and wasn't wise enough to keep it. It was in mint condition with power steering but traded it for a JD lawn tractor and JD Gator --- dumb , dumb !!
