Can anyone help me. i fixed an old 1919 model F. i put a lucas magneto conversion on, as the coils and stuff is missing. i could get it to pop once a year ago with a faulty distributer and a battery, but with the magneto- not even a pop. even tried warming up the manifold.the magneto does make sparks on the plugs- not the bigest, but visible at night. and the fumes coming from the exhaust are strong petrol fumes. it is timed so that the impulse coupler clics on no1 exactly at the top of compression on no 1 piston.

Well Hentie, I'd start by cleaning and setting the points in the mag and the plugs. Clean the contact in the cap. You may even try a different condenser. Then I'd pull the valve cover and check to see if any valves are stuck open. Then I'd have somebody spin it with the plugs out while you check all cylinders for compression. Then I'd leave the gas shut off completely and put a little in each cylinder, put the plugs in (fast so feul don't evaporate) and try it. It may be just flooding itself. If it fires now you can look at the feul system, Butch

Thanks Butch

I found a flaw in my conversion logic. i was running the magneto off the cam shaft with equal size sprockets. this should have worked except that the magneto only makes half a turn for every one turn of the sprocket. took a day to machine a new bicycle sprocket 2x the size for the cam shaft. it climbs out from under the chain, but hope to make it work and try starting it soon. thanks for the advce, ill try it. (by the way, whats a condensor? not all that experienced with the terms) hentie.
