Hello everyone, used to be a regular on the old Case forum but I have a Fordson Question.

I met a fellow who recently aquired an old Fordson Major in really good shape and I was curious to know the year of manufacture.

the data plate reads:
Engine # 1142805
7-7 high speed top gear
and standard speed (intermediate gear) transmission
built in Dagenham England

Any info is helpful.

thanks muchly

Mike from Canada

E27Ns weren't built for the US market and are pretty much a modle of there own, you won't find them on US production lists except as a sideline, I have all serial numbers for these modles and yours is as previously stated. If you would like to provide casting numbers I can narrow it down to a month and year for you, they are very common in Australia with most parts reasonably available for all fuel types. Exceptions are Grills, manifolds, headlights and mounts, many aftermarket bits and pieces are available from old 20 web site and a collection of lunatics like myself who own and restore these can be found regularly on Oscars Fordson Pages website. I have owners and a poor version of a workshop manual for these so drop us an email and I'll try to send them to you.
Regards,
Steve

Mike,
I've got two E27N's both diesal and my info tells me yours fits between the serial numbers 1138235 to 1180609 which were produced in 1950, they came out in petrol, petro/kero or 4 and 6 cylinder perkins diesal, closer date of manuafacture can be acertained from the casting numbers found through out the tractor on gearbox and axles for instance

Mike:
I've only had my Major for 10 months, so I don't know very much yet. However, the S/N you provided doesn't coincide with with any production numbers. I'm sure someone more in the know could comment on this, but might it be possible that the tractor has been Frankensteined from different models - maybe the gas machines had a different series of numbers?
good luck

As a matter of fact it is a gas engine model. I should have made that clear I guess.

Thanks anyway,

Mike,

I think you have a Fordson Major E27N about 1950 or 1951. They were slightly before my time and I have few details on them. The later Majors started from S/No.121701 the first being built in 1952.
