Hi, My Fordsons 2 stage clutch does not always disengage the PTO drive. The clutch is adjusted correctly as it will disengage when a large enough load is applied. Some time back the oil level in the transmission was low and this is when the problem started. I was wondering if anyone would have a solution to my problem. Thanks in advance.

When you say the clutch is adjusted correctly I take it you mean that you have around 1/2" free play on the main pedal. Try reducing this a little more and see if the clutch clears.

There are a number of things that could cause the problem but lack of oil in the gearbox is not one of them.

It could be wear on the toggles that release the PTO clutch and this would be what I would suspect from what you say. It really depends o how old the clutch is and what work it has done.

Hi Majorman,
I did actually try it with the free play removed or reduced and it still did not disengage. I'm not sure how old the clutch is. I've had it for at least 5 years and only done a little mowing, raking and baleing of hay with it. If it is the toggles, is this repairable and do I need to split the tactor in order to do it?

The answer is yes and yes. But if you are able to get it in gear and it stops under load it could be due to lack of use or even a little oil on the plates. I would keep working it for a while before getting physical with her.
