I am in the process of trying to resurrect a 1952(thanks majorman) gas major, and need some input on how far I should go.This tractor now runs on 3 cylinders, has about 75 psi in 3 cylinders, and virtually none in the 4th.Putting a small amount of oil in the cylinders, did not seem to affect the compression significantly,so I am assuming much of the problem is valve related. I am going to have the head done, but do not as yet know the condition of the rings etc. This tractor does not seem to emit much smoke, and , if the gauge is accurate, has about 40 lbs of oil pressure, dropping off to about 20 or 25 at an idle. What would be a normal oil pressure for a tractor of this vintage? The former owner told me it was rebuilt about 20 years ago, and I would be surprised if it has done much work for several years.Mostly used to haul a bit of manure, and a bit of harrowing.Appreciate any comments.

Doug,

Oil pressure is perfect for that engine so she must be OK on crank and camshaft bearings. I suspect you are right about the valves too.
