Thanks for dating that for me. Seems to be a lot of resources and parts for diesel, but not so much for the gas versions. Must not have been too many years they made these?

The records in the US start from 1954 rather than 1952, seems we Brits get into everything about 2 years before you catch up :0). The earlier version, E27N, ran from 1945 to 1951 with a few supplied with Perkins engines after 1951 in the home market. Think they must have used the old parts stock to build E27N's for the export market.

The E1ADN which you have and the E1ADKN which is the petrol kerosene version were quickly supplanted by the E1ADDN which was the diesel version and only about 25,000 of the spark ignition tractors were made.

Parts for the tractor engine may be a bit difficult as it has different engine liners and of course a different head but most of the rest of the parts are common to the diesel tractors and are still available.

I'm suprised that the diesel and gas engines are so similar. By engine liners you mean those that line the cylinders? The gas engine has liners too?

I'll do a compression test an if it looks good, I'll order some bearigs. She has pretty bad knock, I hope it didn't damage the crankshaft. Anyone ever put bearings in one of these just by removing the oilpan?

As much as I like her, I'm afraid of attempting a complete rebuild of that old girl.

Just put new tires on her too.....

Yes the gas engine has liners. The engine was designed as a universal unit that had most parts common for all fuels and applications. It was used in trucks, tractors and industrial machines.

You can replace the bearings through the sump BUT have you found what caused them to fail? This could be worn crank, no oil pressure etc. I would not be too worried about an overhaul thay are a very simple engine and, if you have a Fordson workshop manual it can be done quite easily.

Yes, the failure was my father not checking the oil..... ..


So, I'm hoping there wasn't too much other damage.....

Just for Info,
The E27N P6 went into factory production in 1950, (I've got one) also a popular mod prior to this and after for that matter was to fit P6 or P4 Diesals to petro kero E27Ns of which there are many around. my dateing list starts in 1950 for P6, don't know much about the 4 cylinder except they were more numerous than the 6.
