I am researching the history of the orchard versions of the Diesel Major built by Stormont Engineering, Kent, England from 1952 to 1957.
There is little known about these tractors, less than 1000 built and around 25 surviving to-dayDoes anyone out there have one? Please reply by email to exchange information to enable me to write an article for a tractor magazine so that the information can be shared by all \Fordson Major enthusiasts. Thanks in advance

Hi David, well i would like to tell you about my KFD 68. My late grandfather bought the tractor about 16-17 years ago. it was bouhgt off farm down here in somerset. the KFD had apparently been purchased from a local ford dealer in bruton. the farmer who bought it new wanted it for competition ploughing with a trailer plough. he had the original dropped exhaust removed and a conventional upright stack fitted.this was to give the tractor enough ground clearance for when he was doing his empt.the original exhaust was thrown in the tractor.the tractor now is under going final stages of it's second refurb since my family have owned it.if you would like to know any thing else please feel free to get in touch. Pip ps I have been told that there were only about 500 machines made and most of these were exported.

Pip, Thanks for the reply, please send me the KFD serial number on red tin plate on battery fire wall, also tractor serial number & casting code under seat in raised letters. This will give me the true date of manufacture. Also any build details of tractor which will confirm date, ie wide fan belt, upright fuel pump, aircleaner above or below bonnet.
Your name & location will not be recorded for confidentiality.
So far most remaining KFD's are under 350 serial number pre 1955. Highest is KFD64 industrial number 628. Hopefully ex employee will give me approx build number in total in next 2 weeks. Also have works photos from 1952 to publish in mag article.
Any help you can give will be most gratefully received. The more I get the more I can publish.
SO far about 13 in Kent area, and 20 in Wales, Welsh borders & West Country & Northern Ireland.
Look forward to your reply in near future,
best regards David Bate
