After searching the archives for a while, I am fairly certain that I should replace the rear end fluid in my 55 major to 30w motor oil. I know that it currently has hydraulic fluid in the rear, but it is due for a change. My question is how does motor oil react with remote cylinders? I bought an aux. hydro control valve, which mounts in front of the lift quadrant, and I want to put some lines on the tractor to run a hydraulic cylinder for a grading blade.
Also, I do not have my manual handy, so can someone tell me how many quarts of gallons of 30w I will need for the rear end and the engine?
Thanks.

Ford's have been using 30W engine oil in the backend since around 1958 so if there was any problem with loaders etc. it would have shown up by now.

I run straight 30W or 10/30W in mine. Be aware that you may have severly damaged the final drive units dif. etc. and possibly the hydraulic pump if you have been running a hydraulic oil in there. These oils have very little lubrication qualities.
