I picked up a Reverse drive fordson Major with a loader on the back end. The seat and steering wheel is reversed. It has power steering. The loader has its own pump driven off of the crank of the the engine.

We were able to lift about 2500 lbs.

There is not 3 pt on it or PTO.

The tractor sure looks factory done. I was told that the tractor was make for the military for loading rail cars.

A number of companies made these type of machines. The Major was such a simple tractor to convert and there were so many about at the time. Ford supplied skid units by the thousand. To make a reverse drive, the crown wheel was fitted on the other side of the pinion.

how do I go about finding out where this may have come from?

Any Ideas?

Could a person still fit this with a PTO?

In theory yes, its only a basic tractor under all that. Problem might be if the drive gears were missing in the gearbox and you would need the PTO drop housing and gears that fit under the gearbox plus the shaft etc. A scrap Major of the same age could be a donor.

Mail me a picture to majorman1@aol.com and I will see if I can help further. Also get the numbers from under No.1 cylinder or on the flange behind the starter. These will help you get the correct parts.
