That is a great question! Usually, an engine is run in to heat it up and while hot, the bolts are retorqued. I have never even heard of one sitting for 4 years between first run and tightening the bolts! Not that it really matters much now. Once a leak starts, it is real real hard to make it quite without a new gasket. (I would still try, what have you got to lose?) On the head, if it was not checked for deck flatness 4 years ago, you should do it when (if) you change the gasket. It isn't hard, but you need a good straight edge longer than the corner to corner length. Clean the gasket surface, not just poke at it, really get EVERY THING off. When clean, put the straight edge corner to corner and look for any gap. (Back light with a bright flashlight) Measure if you find one. 2-3 thousanths are ok. Anything 5 and over gets the head cut. But that's just me, the manual should have the Ford spec. Good luck! jb
