I have a Super Dexta and was wondering if any were made with power steering, or if there are any add-on kits for them? I would like to put a loader on mine and ps. would be nice. Thanks.

Thanks for the replies. I've found the kit that Wayne describes. I'll keep looking for others. Wayne, does your Dexta steer easy without power steering? Mine has always steered hard. Much harder than my 8n. I just thought that was the nature of the Dexta. I've never found a problem and the steering is tight. It just steers hard. It is very difficult to back implements into the shed. Thanks again.

I replaced spindles and bearings, and my tractor with a spinner knobs turns with one hand. It is super easy to steer. I mounted my loader then replaced spindles. It made steering the loader as easy as the empty tractor before. When I removed the loader, I thought I had power steering or a heavy implement on back. I cannot emphasize well enough how much much the new spindles and bearings made a difference.
Investment. $49 per spindle side and about $20 for the bearings and seals. Compared to a PS kit. Cheap.

Have you checked the steering to see if it is correctly set up? With the wheels straight ahead, check that the notches on the front of the axle spindles line up. Then check the spindles for lift.

You might have broken thrust bearings.

They usually steer easily.

Thanks for the advice. I'll take a look at it. I'm glad to hear that it should steer easy.

I have a Dexta power steering kit in reply to nwb, 12-09-2005 08:36:16
I bought a Dexta PS kit for mine, when I had a Wagner WF3 loader on it. Kit could not be mounted, because the left steering arm hit the loader. When I removed the loader, I could steer the tractor with one finger. Did not need it.

I'm likely going to put the kit on my Super Dexta. I'm putting my loader on my big Ford.

The kit I have uses only the left steering arm with a cross tie rod up front. Everything fits well, uses a longer belt and the pump mounts on the left side. Neat kit, looks good, but it would require a Freeman loader or one of the quick removal type loaders. The old step in type Wagner, Superior and other varieties, with the support beam even or just above the front axle level will hit the steering tie rod.
Sort thru finding a loader that will not interfeere with steering before you buy your kit.

Power steering was (sadly) never an option , but is now available from a jobber. If you do a search on this site, there is information about it.

If there is no powersteering equipment availeable you can maybe try this:
I have seen the powersteering cylinder and pump from an old Ford lorry used on a MF35. The pump was powered by the fan belt. The cylinder was installed on one of the rods that connects the steering mchanism with the front axle. The owner said it works well. I suppose it would work on Dexta as well.
I hope somebody of the old guys has an easier solution than mine.
