4 X 4 swap

I am guesing the tractor these parts are on are a mid to late 50"s Fordson Major

My question is would these parts fit my 1963 Super Major. It would be a blast to have 4 WD

Tractor is located in the caribbean on a family estate, Not even sure if the 4 WD set up is salvageable, as it has been sitting out in a field for over 20 years, but tractor is still complete.

The freight would be at least a thousand, I am in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Would it even be worth it, freight wise if the parts were still good.

How much are the 4 WD set ups worth. (front diff, driveshaft, and that addition that goes between the gearbox and bell housing).

Any info or suggestions would be appreciated.

The front wheels are smaller than the rear. The front diff from my research is off a ww 11 6 wheel army truck.

The ones with the same size whells front and back were the super 4"s I beleive and they had two driveshafts one on either side

In the Caribbean, on the islands we get sea blast, from the ocean. So there is salt in the air which can be very hard on metal.

I am really keeping my fingers crossed that I can salvage the 4 wheel drive unit.

About ten years ago while I was in the Caribbean I cam across a Ford Dexta with the Roadless 4 Wheel Drive conversion, went to look at it, they had taken the cover off the grearbox and left it out in the rain, It was unsalvageable, as everything was properly rusted and seized.

The front diff part was still good, but the owner wanted my first born ($) for it so I walked away. It most likely got dumped eventually because I know the owner died a few years back and the estate was divided up.

The Fordson was converted by a company called Roadless Tractor, apparently the front diff was off a 1950's, 6 wheel WW 2 army truck. I will be going down to the caribbean in Aug 2006, will check it out then.

Thanks for giving me an idea of what the tractor is worth.

Shipping would be in the CAD $5,000 dollar range as I would have to containerrize it. That is the only way I could ship it

Also I know the tractor was given minimal maintenance and that the engine seized up why it was parked.

I also know there was water in the transmision and gearbox, as the oil was milky.

The tractors on the farm were not very well maintained, and were only used for pulling trailors, so they did not care if the hydraulics worked or not.

I am hoping the four wheel drive section (the part between the transmission and gearbox and the front diff) is still salvageable. I will be down there in August 2006 and if it is salvageable I will ship it up to NS

I see the point about shipping the whole tractor, but the cost is quite high and all I really want is the 4 wheel drive unit to put on mine.

My figure of $5,000 is for a container as The island does not have roll on roll off so I would have to containerize. I was going to ship a Land Rover home for when I visit on vacation and then gave up on the idea as it was too expensive.
