I was given an old Ford Dexta 2000 3 cyl. diesel. From what I can come up with the serial # is supposed to be on the starter housing. However there is nothing there. On a placard by the fuel filter it says that it was made in England. When I got it I changed all the filters, fuel and oil.
It started up and I used it through the summer. It ran ok but dieseled a bit. Now I think the exaust valve in the last cylinder has stuck shut or broken because it builds up pressure in the gas tank and has stopped the injector from pumping for that cylinder. My long winded question is how do I find out if there is a rebuild kit for the engine and what model #. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you James

Thanks for all the info I will try to see if the injector is the problem. I forgot to mention that I did take out all three injectors and clean them but it has been a while. Also thank you for the web site that will be helpful. Even if the injector is the problem I still want to do a rebuild, I don't think that I am getting all the pressure I need from each cylinder. Thanks guys James

Sorry, missed out the bit about serial number. This is on the flange behind the starter and will possibly need a bit of cleaning to find it.

The engine is a Ford/Perkins colaboration. Parts can be got from a Perkins agent or from other suppliers such as Bareco. Most are still readily available but you will need to know what engine you have. The serial number is therefore important.

A stuck exhaust valve will not build up pressure in the fuel tank.

The only thing that would cause back pressure in the fuel system would be a stuck injector.

Take the fuel pipe off to the suspect one and crank the engine. You will see a mist out of the injector connection if it is indeed stuck.

I have come across this twice in over 40 years working on these tractors.
