My dad and I just inherited a small farm with an old 51 Fordson tractor. Does anyone have a source for parts? The starter is dead we guess because we got it started by pulling it and "popping the clutch" I guess. Also, when you put it in reverse, it gets stuck so I guess the gears need some work. Any suggestions?

Could you give a bit more information please? Is it a diesel? Which side is the clutchpedal? How many gears? Dark blue or light blue?

The serial number will be behind the starter stamped on the flange or under No.1 injector if later than 1951/52.

It is a diesel. The color is light blue. We are not exactly sure if it is a 51, but we are sure it is a 50-something and we think it is a 51. It will be a few days before I can get the serial number..going out of town..will post a reply with the serial number on Monday night.

Only two Majors were built in 1951 of the new type, so it will be 1952 up to 1964. From Fordson Major Diesel to New Performance Super Major. The serial number will tell us which. On all castings you will also find numbers like "L14E". These will tell us the month and day when the castings were made.

Good luck, they are a pretty good tractor.
