I HAVE A FORDSON MAJOR DIESEL ENGINE# 1288323. WOULD LIKE TO FIND OUT WHERE AND WHAT YEAR IT WAS MANUFACTURED. ALSO WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT THE ADVERTIZED HP WAS AT THE PTO.

I just traded my FMD in to the ford dealer in Flint MI about a week ago and was allowed $3000 toward a AC190XT diesel. My old FMD had serial no.1420839 and was told that it was a 57. It was a great tractor but needed somthing with dual hydraulics and a little more horsepower. I still have the IT manual and the ford parts manual though. Hope this helps you out! Bill

JF your Major was built in March 1954, HP quoted 40.5 for you build. Manufactured by the Thames in Dagenham, England.

Over here in England the prices vary quite a bit so I have included the latest auction prices from the vintage mags.
1961 Super Major with winch... fair.... £1200.00
1957 Major ... ex farm £680.00
1952 Major one of the first .. Good ... £400.00
Hope this is of some help.
regards
Brian

THANKS AGAIN BRIAN. I THINK HERE IN MICHIGAN,USA THE PRICE WOULD BE A LITTLE HIGHER, MAYBE AROUND 2500 US DOLLARS. THE DEMAND FOR 20 TO 40HP OLD WORKING TRACTORS IS QUITE HIGH. BEST REGARDS JF.
