nice photo, but... in reply to Majorman, 03-03-2006 03:50:13
... I don't see an air intake stack. You must still have an oil bath air filter though? Maybe the ones destined for North America were set up differently? I believe the air stack on my '54 diesel comes up right through a hole in the hood. It seems like there are many slight variations on these machines.

Hi Majorman. Nice to see a Major with its front grills the correct colour of blue. Everybody seems to want to pnint them orange. I have my late uncles 1956 Diesel Major in its origenal clothing and the younger generation tell me they should be orange because Peter Love say they look nice. You may have seen this tractor at FORDSON 500 or Belvoir Castle rally last year its reg no is VRR 19. MJ

Don't get me started on that one. I get a bit rabid about Majors with orange grills and Peter Love and his "well known experts".

I have worked with these tractors since the age of 11 and never saw an orange grilled Major. But I suppose the hundreds that passed through the dealers I worked for don't count in their eyes.

This lady was also at Ford 500 and Tractor 2000 at Newark. She is a 1952, petrol paraffin version.

I've had her for over 30 years and she still works for her living on our small acreage.

What about the "Fordson Major" badge on the side of the hood? It seems to be red in that picture. Is it the original colour? How about Power Major and Super Major?

I have have also seen the front badges (the oval wheatsheaf badge above the grille) painted in many different ways. I suspect that the colours were changed at some point. Could you tell me what the colours originally were?

The side badges are wrong. The chrome was breaking up so I painted them to stop the deteriation and have not yet got them re chromed.
