Pushed my 54 Major out into the sunlight today, ready to fire it up after a winter of restoration. New Lucas solenoid, new battery and starter cables, new Lucas switch on top of starter. Have not put in a new wiring harness yet, just a simple circuit from battery positive, to solenoid, to starter switch, to solenoid, to starter. It's negative ground with an alternator. When I push down the starter lever, the solenoid clicks ..... .. and that's all that happens. So what have I done? I'm cold and tired and a cup of tea will make me feel better, but what about my Major?
Hope you read this Majorman - answer has to be simple, I'm sure.

David,
I post them on my web site then copy the URL to here. I think it has to be from a web site not a photo album though. Could be wrong about that, I know more about Majors :0)

If the solenoid clicks you have it all working correctly but you have either a bad connection or the battery is not fully charged. Check all your connections from each battery post and down to ground.

MM, that's what I thought, and I did discover that I had a lockwasher on the starter post that was shorting across the post to the starter casing. Guess I need to put a non-conductive washer in there, recharge the battery and try again.....thanks for your advice as always. By the way, how did you post that image of your Major on to a site message? Best, David
