I just tested the generator on my 54 major and it puts out .9v (I am NOT an electrical wiz). Is this OK? If so, how do I test the regulator to see if it's working and charging the battery, which is new last year but loses power after a while? Your help always appreciated.

Your dynamo should be giving you an output of 14 to 15V. The easiest way to test is to put a voltmeter across your battery and register the voltage when the engine is running at about 1500rpm. It should be as above.

It would depend on what electrical equipment you have if you want to set the regulator. It is not the sort of thing I would recommend you attempting. It is too easy to wreck the dynamo, regulator and battery if you make an error.
