The 2 side castings look like someone took a bite out of them. I'm thinking that I could maybe epoxy the broken sections or buy a broken casting and cut out sections and braze or weld them in place. Has anyone done this and/or do you have any suggestions? Thanks for your help. FL

Frank:

Unfortunately, these radiator sides are often found broken. The Model F has no front bumper, and the brittle castings will easily break if the tractor collides with anything (i.e., a fencepost, the work bench at the front of the tractor shed, etc.). That, and I bet a few sides were broken in frustration by owners who were tired of cranking on a balky rig that didn't want to start (and gave the reluctant tractor a kick).

If you can find another radiator side, you can cut pieces of it to fix the ones for your tractor.

Best way to put the repair pieces in is not epoxy but to have them welded instead -- Eutectic welding gives good results and once ground/sanded/sandblasted and painted, the job will be virtually undetectable.

If you're not familiar with Eutectic welding, it's a welding process wherein powdered metal is sprayed via compressed air onto the surface being welded. Works very well on castings, and can be cleaned up to a nice finish, without the telltale seam of a standard arc-welder's bead.

You may have a bit of a job finding a local welder with a Eutectic setup, but ultimately it will be worth the effort.

Good luck!

Hi Maine Fordson, Thanks for the info on welding the side castings. I'll look around to see if anyone locally does Eutectic welding. My recollection of Eutectic is a specialty welding rod manufacturer. Maybe the local welder can fill me in.FL
