When I turn on the key to try to start the engine I'm not getting any battery power to the solinoid or the switch on top of the starter. If I jump the 2 battery terminals on the solinoid the engine will turn over. Is there supposed to be a connection from the batteries to the switch on top of the starter or to one of the small terminals on the solinoid?
Thanks,
Jack

I had this a couple years ago on mine and had to change the solenoid for a new one. I got one at the local auto parts. maybe check to see with a 12volt light if you have power coming from the key switch to the solenoid when the key is on first to eliminate the switch.

Jason,
I guess I failed to mention that I allready replaced the solenoid. When I turn on the key there is no power to the small terminals of the solinoid or starter switch on top of the starter. I guess the problem is the ignition switch, but I haven"t been able to trace a power source from the battery to the ignition switch.
Thanks,
Jack

Power comes from the battery terminal on the solenoid, a cable that fits on the same post as the lead from the battery, to the ignition switch then to the switch on top of the starter, through this switch to the small terminal on the solenoid.

Check that your solenoid does not need an earth wire or that you have not forgotten to connect the lead I have described.

Try Link and check for wiring diagram on that site.

Thank you for your help I'll let you know how I make out. Hopefully I'll get to it this week. Do you know the least expensive place to purchase a repair manual for this tractor. The only one I've found is $70+.
Thanks,
Jack
