third party image

Here is a picture of the simms pump on my industrial 220 motor. I have shown the air bleed and the cold start for future refrence.

What are the other two things?

Also does this pump need oil checked/ filled?
If so where do I do that at?

Why not do this Re: Simms pump picture Question in reply to farmallwayne, 06-13-2006 08:42:45
Plumb in the boost pump and put a switch on the electric unit. I have an Ford (SMD) industrial installed in a old FMD plumed pump with hose no problems since instalation 10 years ago. So what happened to your orginal block mounted pump? Electric dont get it for me but are good for bleeding if run out of fuel.

You have an industrial pump which includes a fuel lift pump. That is the item with a disc shape and a bolt in the middle. Its not required and could be removed and a blanking plate fitted over the hole.

The second item is the overflow pipe. Diesel is allowed to enter the pump for lubrication. Any excess bleed out of here onto the floor. Only a very small amount though.

Yes you have to fill the governor housing with oil. This is separate from the pumping components. Oil filler is that square plug near the fuel filter in your picture, level and drain are the plugs near the lift pump operating lever in your picture. Fill with engine oil and change when you change the engine oil. Diesel will also build in here and dilute the oil, this is normal. The oil only lubricates the mechanical governor.

The pump is a Simms Minimec.

Thanks for the info.

I thought that was a lift pump but not sure. It has an electric pump on it now that it uses.

The fuel tank is above the motor. Do i even need a lift pump being how the tank is above the motor? Just wondering incase the electric one goes out.

This clears things up for me.

Yes, because the system needs a positive pressure of about 5-10 psi. The fuel filter is about halfway up the tank so you would only get a full flow for about half the tank.
