I am new to tractors and am having a bit of trouble cold starting my fordson major diesel. Could someone please give me a suggested step by step. NB The tractor runs beautifully once going and is fine to restart, i think i am doing something wrong at the start.

Should be leaning forward about 10 degrees.

Your welcome.

The only time you have to bleed or prime the system is when you run out of diesel or when you change the fuel filters.

Two bleeds on the top of the filter, in and out, one bleed on the pump under the fuel lines.

Slaken these off one at a time and prime until airfree diesel comes out. Then tighten carefully. Do not overstrain them as they will break.

The tractor also has a filter in the fuel tap under the tank. This may need cleaning if you get a lot of gunge in the tank. Drain the diesel and remove the tap. Clean filter on tap. Replace tap.

You will then have to carry out above.

Throttle halfway,

Push in cold start button in the centre of the stop control on the injection pump.

Push starter.

Even if the engine is worn they will usually start straight away.

If someone has been adjusting the pump timing or using ether then you may have problems.
