Hello, Just bought a old Gas Fordson. Serial # is 1228946 on the firewall. There is E27N stamped on the front axle but I understand there are some parts that have that regardless of the model. Any help with the model and year would be appreciated. I am hoping to locate a Manual.

Hydraulics are dropping on 3 pt hitch which seems to be a common problem, sounds like the piston seal is the first step to check.

Any help woul dbe great.

Thanks

Thank you MM and Gaffa. I did pull the piston out and the seal does seem to be eroded. It slipped rather easily out of the piston, I would expect that it should have some resistance if intended to hold the 3 pt in any one position. I will try and locate a new one.

Thanks for the help.

The seal is held on with a bolted on plate. Be careful not to break the lug off when you take the bolt out. Plates are a bit like "hen's teeth".

Thanks for all your help. The job wasnt too bad even though I had no idea what I was looking for. I did get a seal from a seal shop, they had one on hand. Lift works great now. The only problem was that I figured I would drain and change the hyd/Trans fluid while I was at it. I thought about maybe 12- 15 liters of oil.....turns out it takes about 40 L. After the panic of realizing my catch pan was to small and a few liters on the floor, I got smart enough to put the drain plug back in and got myself sorted out. Overall it was a good experience. Thanks again.

Your tractor is a Fordson Major E1ADN not an E27N. It was built in 1952 June, the first year of production. There were only about 25,000 of the spark ignition versions of this tractor made between 1952 and 1957 and a lot of these were converted to diesel.

Piston seal would be the first area to check. Its not a bad job but you may have difficulty finding a seal. Its an odd size. I got one made for mine at a seal company. Cost me £11.00 (English).

Your tractor [Engine] is dated June 1952. Try looking for some cast codes to ensure this correct.

Gaffa
