Farmer George: If you go to the site that HammerHead posted earlier, you"ll find a link to the Fordson production matrix. Look for "What year is your Fordson?" and click on it. That will show you where to find the serial number and, once you know that, you can check it against the matrix to find out when your tractor was manufactured. As far as color goes, if your tractor is indeed a 1920"s Model F it should be whitish-gray with bright-red wheels. (You can buy the "correct" colors from The Fordson House in Escanaba, Michigan ->Link Anyway, about the magneto: On the Model F, an external magneto was an aftermarket option that many farmers bought to help their tractors start easier and be more mechanically dependable. Quite a few manfacturers produced magnetos for the Fordson F, among them Wico, Jaeger, Kingston, TACO (the Tractor Accessories COrporation out of New Holstein, Wisconsin) and, of course, Bosch. Pushing the Bosch magneto "over the top" in the minds of many was the fact that it had the added bonus of an integral governor. I think your best bet for info about that magneto will be eBay, unfortunately. Literature and manuals for the Bosch magnetos show up from time to time, but you never know what the final bid will be -- just depends on who wants it, and how bad. The original literature will likely depict that magneto/governor installed on a tractor, and probably show the linkages that you need the info on. The only other option I can think of would be to ask Butch Howe in upstate New York -- he deals with a lot of Fordson F"s and aftermarket magnetoes, and he may be able to help you or at least point you in the right direction. Look through his replies in this forum to find an active "send e-mail" link and contact him. Hope the above is of at least some help. It ain"t easy, dealing with this old iron, but if it was, everybody would be doin" it! Good luck, and let us know how you make out.
