I apologize for "using" your e-mail. A neighbor and I are trying to locate parts for his tractor. Through these e-mails and this site I think we are looking at a 1963 Fordson (Ford) Dexta probably made in England and sold in Canada. It is serial number 959E91344. If you could help us with some clues, I would appreciate it much. Dr. Bob

This is fairly normal. It can be adjusted by a damper on the governor. You should have an adjuster on the rear of the governor housing on the back of the pump. Adjust it in a little at a time.

Thanks Majorman

I have looked up the w/s manual and assume the adjuster is top rear of the pneumatic governor of the FI pump.

Sorry, I got it wrong. I was not using the manual and got the wrong pump in my mind.

There is no damping adjustment on the Dexta pump.

The adjustment you see is the maximum fuel stop. Do not adjust this.

The problem could be caused by a sticking rack in the fuel pump or a weak governor spring or even a small leak in the diaphram.

Unless it is really bad I would just accept it. As I said earlier it is a common Dexta problem with the vacuum goverened pump.

Thanks Majorman

It is bad - well I think it is! It speed up the tractor when in gear then it brakes it when the revs drop. I am concerned about clutch wear etc. What is your best guess on the remedy?
