I have recently aquired a fordson major circa 1946. It is crank handle start, runs on kero and has steel front and back wheels. Can anyone tell me exactly what model it is and approx what its worth?

Hello,
Sounds like a Fordson E27N made in England ( made from around 1945 to 1951) It has a serial number stamped around the (round) engine to gearbox joining flange on the right hand side. I'm guessing it should be a number around a million. I would think they might be a little more collectable over there. They are very common over here because they were about the cheapest tractor here after the war! Just an uprated version of the English model N (better gearbox and provision for electric start as an extra)
Regards
Andrew

Thanks alot it came with a property we bought and apparently runs exceptionally well. Thought i might spruce it up a bit for shows. Any idea where to get an elec. starter for it.

I've got a 1950 model. It has 12 volt Lucas electrics. I wouldn't be surprised if the starter was similar in all the later Fordsons, maybe even the bigger US Fords. Your bigger problem will be to put a ring gear on the flywheel if it isn't already there. You could mount just about any 12 volt generator or alternator in the usual place. The battery is supposed to be up behind the gas tank, but wouldn't have to be for it to function. Use a Ford solenoid starter switch.
I'll be showing mine hext weekend at the Dalton, MN show.
