The museum where I work has an old fordson f and I would like to know where the serial number is located on this model. I am unable to locate it and was wondering if it was orginally painted on or should I be able to find a plate somewhere on the tractor. Any comments?

Ray -- Follow the link below; it'll show you a picture of where to look for the serial number on a Model F. Once you have the number, compare it to the production matrix to determine the year of manufacture. (Just so you know, the number was hand-stamped into the block, so the digits are often uneven and poorly struck.)

The serial number is stamped on the engine block.

Look just above the manifold at the front of the tractor between the exhaust and intake for number 1 cylinder.

The number stamping wasn't very consistent in quality. Some tractors have very readable serial numbers and some are difficult to read. Some times there is no trace of it ever being stamped in which case it may be a replacement block.

Since so many Fordsons have parts swapped from other tractors you often see Fordson's with parts from various years and it is hard to put a specific year on the tractor.

If you don't find a serial number for the engine, then you'll need to post pictures or descriptions of the tractor and someone can narrow it down to a year range.

anyways the thing to do is find acouple of them and make one good one because by the time you buy all the parts to fix it you will spend much more than it worth
