Hello, I have the opportunity to purchase a Fordson Power Major. The history behind it is that the owner indicated that there was coolant which leaked into the block and prevented the engine from running. The owner proceeded to dismantle the head and all of the components on it but did not bother re-assembling it. AFAIK the tractor has been sitting for about two to three years exposed to the elements :(. There is rust on the top of the block and the head. It looks like the pistons are ceized. What I would like to find out is if the engine is salvageable or what I need to look for to determine that. I know the pistons have sleeves on them and there are after-market kits to rebuild it. I am also assuming that the head and the block would have to be machined. What I am most concerned about is that the lifters have been pulled out and left to rust, and also all of the coolant passages have rust in them. Can the lifter guides be machined and/or repaired? Would it be unreasonable to assume that the inside of the engine is rusted also and is beyond repair? :( (ex: camshaft, valve guides, pistons, bearing, valves?)
In addition the diesel fuel lines have also been exposed to the elements for all of this time. What should I expect in order to repair the fuel system? Is it salvageable?
The rest of the tractor is in pretty good shape, no noticable leaks.

Thank you kindly for all the help.

PS the decals on the tractor are "Fordson Power Major", it is a four cylinder diesel, with two batteries, six speeds and two reverse, I do not have the serial yet, but the engine block and transmission have h16n and h16d stamped on them (hence the circa 1960). There is a 3pth and pto and the tractor has a loader installed.

PS I have also posted this message on Oscars fordson buletin board.
