I got a friends Dexta going for him. When he bought it fuel was going into the intake. I found a push rod lock nut stripped. I fixed a few other things and he gave me A 1964 super dexta he had pushed out into the weeds. I found the fuel pump is weak. The diaphram is stiff It slowly pumps up to 3 lbs pressure. The injectors are dry ad it will not start even tho I pulled it some distance. Could the pump be the problem. I had a parts store order one and they found them NLA. NH wants $155 for a new pump. I have ordered a reproduction for #38 and shipping. Am I missing something here. The previous owner said it would loose power and quit running before he gave up on it 5 years ago. It has not run since.Any thoughts?

If you are talking about the manual fuel lift pump, they are available at most dealerships as that model was used on several different tractors. Another area of concern would be the injection pump itself. That pump is lubricated with it's own oil which must be changed every time the engine oil in changed (100hrs). The filler plug is on top of the pump and is opened with a 15/16th wrench. On the side of the pump is the level plug (1/2"wrench) with the drain plug underneath, again 1/2". Oil used is the same as used in engine. The oil level should be checked between changes as diesel fuel will dillute it in time. Super Dextas are great tractors, I've had mine since new (1963).

I'm no expert on Dextas or Super Dextas, but the "looses power and dies" problem sounds like a lack of fuel. Check to see if your tractor has a screen on the fuel pickup in the bottom of the tank, like U.S. Ford diesels, and clean. Next step would be replace the fuel filter. Although I don't think it's the problem, check/clean the air filer too. As far as the high price... NH seems to know what parts are readily available and what ones tend to only be available through NH dealers.... and marks up those prices a LOT. I've had the same experience. Seems to have started since Ford Tractor Operations was bought from Ford.

The fuel is slow flowing out of the tank and filling the filter housing. I do not know anything about the fuel tank strainer. I will check on that. Thanks a lot.
