I know of a Dexta that is for sale within 50 miles of my home here in Minnesota. It is in fairly good running and operating condition. These tractors are quite rare in my area....can someone give me an idea of what a fair price for one of these is? Tires are fairly good.

Many thanks for the great information on Dextas, Scott. It looks like the Supers had a 152 CID compared to 144 on the regulars, also some sheet-metal changes. I noticed that they refer to the colors as blue and orange; but in looking at a Dexta advirtisement from 1958 in a farm magazine of the time, the wheels look more red; similar toa Dearborn red perhaps. I imagine my local FNH dealer could set me straight on the correct paint, in the event that I buy the tractor.

I think that you will find that the color of the tractor depends to what part of the world the tractor was shipped.

My FPM is fordson blue but the rims are painted white. If the tractor would of stayed in europe it would of had orange rims.

You can find fordson blue ( darker than ford blue ) at this site and on some others. If you are wanting to paint the rims orange you can use allis chalmers orange which is a pretty good match. I personally have not painted mine because it is still a worker and I like the look of a worker better. Personal opinion of course. Let me know how you make out, I would be interested.

Thanks, Scott. What are the main differences between a Super Dexta and a regular Dexta? Is the three-cylinder diesel made by Ford, or is it a Perkins, do you know? I have heard others comment on how fuel-efficient these diesels were. I am trying to get more details about the machine, hopefully this week.

Blue Horse,

I am not a dexta expert by any stretch of the means. I have a Power Major and have ran into a few folks who have had dexta's or have had them and just talked shop about them. They all seem to be very happy with them and said they were very cheap to run. There is a mechanic in my area who said one of the biggest dairy farms in this area still uses two of them for loader work and small stuff at there farm.

The link below will have most answers to your questions.

As for value it is in the eye of the beholder. Luckily fordsons are pretty misunderstood in the U.S so they do not command the crazy prices of the green painted tractors.

It depends on the condition, hours, super dexta or dexta.

I would say a fair price would be 1k - 2k depending on the above. I have heard from several mechanics and other folks that they are really dependable and easy to work on. I am not sure how available parts are, but I am sure you can find most major part @ CNH or bare-co.

Scott
