My starter quit working a while back and i removed it and took it to the shop. This is one of the major Frodsons. Starter ok. I replaced the foot starter switch with a new one. I had a new one made for a Farmall H & M. I installed it and when I tried to connect the battery cable the battery cable was sparking. Figuring I had a short somewhere I removed the big battery cable at the starter. Now I test the starter switch and it is hot at both connections inside the switch. Did I install it incorrectly? Seemed straight forward and I put electrical tape on the cables at the ends on the excess metal to be sure they did not touch each other or frame of tractor. One side of the connection should be hot only when the starter switch is pushed in. Is there any reason this switch Farmall switch should not work on a Fordson? thanks for any help. Jerry

Take a look at the starter switch contacts, that is if you can get at them. My guess is that they are welded together. This happens when the voltage gets low the amps go up and will weld the contacts together. Try to seperate them and if the silver is gone you should replace them.
