I bought a fordson this weekend, the tractor is complete. The man said the injectors had collapsed,is that serious? It has the 200 ci diesel,It has 5 forward,1 rev. hi,and low ranges. It also has 2 speed pto.I own a 61'super major,3 speed hi,lo,so this one has a beefier tranny.also this one is 6-8" lower than my s\m,they both carry 38's on the rears. Is this a power major, the man said that it was a '54,or a '56 model. It is at my mom's about 70 miles away.thanks

Hi;
this cant be a Power, because all the Majors were basically the same tractor, just improvements in engine h.p. and driving position & controls. The only visible differences in your Super over a Power will be the Super has diff lock & different hydraulic lever.
Diesel Major - 1952 to 1957
Power 1958 to 1960
Super 1960 to 1962 blue & orange
" 1963 to 1965 blue & light grey
post some pictures so we can see what you have bought, and hopefully give you some advice.
cheers David

 Hi David in reply to David in Wales, 02-13-2007 06:30:20
Hi David
Sorry to bother
You seem to know Fordsons
My father just got a Power Major (Diff lock)
The cluch is set in a way that it only has one function, that is it stops the blower and the tractor at the same time.
I know that it can be set up to stop the tractor when the clutch is half way down and the PTO when the cluch is fully depressed.
I know it has to do with removing some pin in the linkage. I just dont know how to do it.
Could you by chance tell me how to do it.

Did Fordson Majors ever have 5 speed trannys? My first thought was that it might be a Nuffield 10/60 painted blue. They have very similar sheet metal and a 5x2 trans. but a different engine.

thanks david,it sure did solve some confusing questions in my head.your right the hydraulic lift is in a different position than my s\m,it is almost under my right knee,my s\m it is on my right side.i presume the hp is the same, because the engine is the same.the colors are correct.haven't figured out how to post pix yet, give me your e-mail i'll be glad to send them to you.by the way the man and i haggled on the price,i gave him $500.00 u.s. the thing was he was between a rock and a hard place.later on that day he started some trouble with another man,and got arrested.alcohol leads to trouble every time.nice to have a tractor friend in the u.k. c.w. sellers
