Does it have the letters E1ADKN cast into the right side of the block below the injector pump?

E1A means that its the same engine that was used in Fordson New Majors. Are there 2 steel lines that run from the governor, on the front part of the injector pump, to the intake manifold? What do you mean by breaking down oil at an alarming rate? Is it losing oil out of the crank case, but you're not sure where its going?

There is no steel lines going from the governor to the intake manifold. By breaking down oil (15w40 all fleet diesl oil) at an alarming rate (after only three hours of use) I mean that the oil is being thinned out (possibly by excess fuel- it smells somewhat of diesl fuel) to the point that it loses oil pressure. It is not losing oil out of the crank case. It smokes white when started, black under load.

Black under load means that the motor is getting too much fuel.

White smoke means there is water in the oil. Usually as cracked head gasket.

I would start with a plugged air cleaner, next I would check for a stuck excess fuel button or stuck rack in the fuel injection pump.

After you have verified all of the above I would take the pump and injectors to the shop to be checked.

If you search on this site you will find thousands of posts about different color smoke.

Majors normally put out a little white smoke when you first start them and some black smoke under load. If its a lot of smoke, then its a problem. Check the aircleaner like morningwood said. I would also start the engine with the valve cover off and see if its leaking diesel from the short pipes that go from the injector lines to the injectors or the return line on top of the injectors. Also make sure that the return line is open all the way to the tank. Does the oil level get a lot higher on the dipstick after you run it for a while?

I checked the air cleaner it is flowing freely. The oil on the dipstick does raise some, the smoke i get from the machine when first started clears up after its run above idle for a short period of time. There is no water in the oil or oil in the coolant.

I took the valve cover off and the return lines were leaking some also the main lines to the injectors had some fuel on the bottoms of them just past the rubber boots. How do i remove the injectors and does anyone know if i can buy a complete new return line,if not what is the best way to repair. thanks Dave

The return line should have a copper sealing washer on both sides of it (one under the fitting and one under the bolt head) on each injector. If they are missing or deformed and not sealing you can probably get new ones at your local hardware store. If the line itself is leaking, a radiator shop can probably solder it up for you.
The injector lines inside the valve covers have a hex shoulder on them that you can put a wrench on. You can hold those while you loosen the outside injector lines, then tighten the inside ones, then hold them again and tighten the outside ones. Don't tighten or loosen the outside ones without holding the inside ones. I hope this helps you get your fuel leak fixed.
