Let me first say i always thought an old fordson would make an excellent high school project. There is alot to be learned about the mechanical simplicity of a fordson, in comparision to todays high tech everything.
A fordson F not on original steel wheels with some missing parts (gas tank, maybe more??) would be worth from $150 to a top of about $1000. The $150 is about what the junk man would pay. To be worth $1000 it would have to have all original manifold, carb, and fuel bowl assembly in good shape, and the engine would have to turn over. If you want a better estimate email me some pictures, and I can probally even estimate a year for you. Keep in mind a 'nothing special' totally restored Fordson F will be worth $3000 to $3500, A little more if it is and early model.
As far as part availibility, it is not very easy to find some items new or used (Pistons are almost non-existant). New parts can be purchased at the Fordson House, or Rosewood Machine. Both place have excellent new items, and some used parts. Check out their web sites and prices and you can get a feel of what it may cost you. Ebay has some items from time to time, but very few bargins. Best bet is to contact a local Fordson Collector. Most times they will have items they can part with at a reasonable cost. I've always said you can't own one Fordson as you need 3 others to fix one up.
One final note, old Fordsons have poured babbit bearings for the mains and rods. Buying a Fordson is always a gamble if these are in good shape or not. If the babbit is bad, and you or a close friend don't have the tools to pour them, expect to get a decent amount of money in this (approx. $200-$250 for the rods, and about double that for the mains). If you take on this project and need some help, I'd be glad to give you any pointers. Between my Brother, Dad, Myself, and Grandfather we have over 20 running tractors, and a few others in various stages of restoration, so we have come across quite alot. Good luck.
