I have this Power Major that I cannot get running. The timing is on the mark at 23 BDC and I have bleed the fuel. The fuel is getting to the injectors. Seems like I must have problems with the injectors. Is there anything I'm missing here that I have not checked? It will run with a little starting fluid but when the starting fluid quits so does the engine.. Is there a way to check the injectors? thanks for any suggustios. Jerry

You say fuel is getting to the injectors.

How much fuel is getting to the injectors ??? If you take the fuel line of off the injectors do you have a nice stream of fuel ( it should shoot 3 - 5 feet ) shooting out of the injectors ??

Is the air filter plugged up ?? Have you taken the snorkle off and tried to start it without ??

Your pump might be 180 out also.

Scott

It pumps out the injector line at a steady rate but does not have that much velocity. The air line is clear, I'm in the process of turning the pump 180 degrees. I took the pump off and if I rotate it 180 degrees the timing mark is on the other side. How do I do 180 and have the timing mark lined up? thanks

Here is how to check if your pump is 180 out per Majorman:

Turn the engine until the valves on No.1 cylinder are both closed, not on the rock, the mark on the pump coupling should be in line with the indicator plate or at least in view.

Now for my advice:

The pump should have a fiber disc between itself and the pump drive.

Unbolt and pull the pump out and turn the drive coupling on the pump 180 degrees. Bolt it back in and realign with the marks on the pump drive.

Good Luck,

Scott

Scott, I'll check the valves. When I turned the injector drive coupling 180 degrees the timing mark also turned 180 degrees which put it on the back side of the pump. Am I doing somthing wrong? thanks

Yeah you need to unbolt the pump from the "platform" it is sitting on, pull it out and turn it 180 degrees and put it back in. Don't worry about it being out of time. You just wanna see if she will cough a little.

The thought here is that someone worked on the pump and they put it back together 180 degrees out.

Let me know what happens,

Scott

Forgot to add.

Don't worry about the timing marks. Just take the pump out and turn 180 and put it back together and see if she will fire.

Also check to make sure your fuel filter and filter in your fuel tap are not plugged up.

Remove the injectors and pressure test them (a good diesel engine shop should be able to do them for you). The pressure settings for the injectors are in the engine data section of the service manuals (sorry, but I can't remember what they are. I sold my copy of the E1A manual last year).

It could also be a compression problem ie worn rings/bores, stuck rings etc.

I thin you'll need to remove the tinwork, whichever way you approach it.

Hope this helps a little & keep us posted.
Cheers, JV.
