Hello . This is a question that aplies to both Fordson and Ford tractors . As it is well known Selene made FWD conversions of ford and fordson tratros , a system that was made under Licence by Roadless in the UK . But I ask . Does anybody know ; did the other FWD conversion firm Cantator make Fwd conversion Ford and Fordson tractors ? And if so waht were they like ? Anything like Selne and Roadless . I know they did Nuffield tractors be not very good by the look of them . Mind you though . Does anybody know what the Selene Nuffiled converions were like come to that . Never seen one of those . Does anybody know ? Many thanks David

The Cantatore Nuff's have a pretty good reputation. Not as good or well engineered as the Nuffield-Bray conversions, but OK none the less. They tended to suffer from front axle trunnion pin problems because they used an un-modified Nuffield front carriage (which could be problematic if abused/neglected on a 2WD tractor, let alone one with the added weight of a driven front axle).
I think Swiss Schindler axles (who later bought out Selene) were used on some Fordson 4WD conversions (I've seen one each on a Dexta and a Super Dexta, but no Majors so far). They're pretty well made, but the Dexta lacks the stones to use it properly.
Other Fordson 4WD's were built by companies such as County, Northrop, Matbro and E. Doe (makers of the famous/infamous Triple D).
Cheers, JV.
PS I'd say the Ford 5000 4WD conversion would have good potential for collecting - especially the Selectaspeed. Good transmission, but about 20 years too soon, sadly!

A company here in the states called Fabco used a similar drive system to the Roadless set-up,they were one of the first companies to offer that type of arrangement.
I know of 2-3 that are for sale I think based on the Ford 4000 model, one is a selecto-speed I think.

Would they be anything that is worth collecting..?

I think a couple years back there was an article in "Antique Power".
