I HAVE A 1960S FORDSON DEXTA THAT HAS AN ALTERNATOR ON IT INSTEAD OF A GENERATOR. THE WIRING HAS GONE BAD. THERE IS A CONTROL BOX UNDER THE INSTRUMENT PANEL ( I BELIEVE IS A VOLTAGE REGULATOR) THAT WIRES ARE CONNECTED TO. QUESTION? IF I HAVE AN ALTERNATOR WHY DO I NEED THE REGULATOR? AND IF I DON'T WHAT DO I DO TO WIRE IT OUT OF THE SYSTEM.? AND IF I DO NEED THIS CONTROL BOX DO I CONNECT IT THE SAME WAY THE GENERATOR WAS WIRED TO IT? CAN ANYONE HELP? THANKS IN ADVANCE. WALT ALLEN

Walt, there are some alternators that require a regulator and some that dont. If its a GM alternator look at the connectors on the side, the internal regulator type has the (2)blades perpindicular to the length of the alternator. The non regulator type has the blades parallel to the length of the alternator. The internal regulator type is the easiest on to hook up, thats what I have on my Dexta. There are several sites around that have good diagrams, you can Google them up an dfind what you need.

Jim: Thanks for the info. Mine goes perpindicular. However badly corroded. I may look at getting a rebuilt one this weekend and will make sure it is regulated. Thanks to you and many others I am sure this will be up and running this weeked. I do appreciate all the warnings for they have save me a lot of time and money. Walt Allen
