Hi,

My '56 major has a loader that works great. It is a later model "easy on", and works off the internal hydraulics. There is a line going from the jack-tapping port to a new set of controls (mounted on right fender). From there it goes to fittings mounted on the back of the tractor, and from there to the loader.I have to block the three point hitch controller in the up position, and have to engage the pto and the clutch for it to work. The return line simply goes into the fill plug behind the seat. This is okay, but would be better if it were live hydraulics. It has two big one way rams to lift the bucket, and two smaller one way cyliders to dump it. Also, I put 10 ply light truck tires (with tubes) on the front wheels so that I could pump them up to 65 psi. The old tires used to bulge quite a bit with a bucket full of gravel. I know that the dexta has live hydraulics. Is it possible for you to tap into them and mount a set of controls on the fender? If so, this would be easier than mounting another pump. The disadvantage is that you cannot use your three point hitch at the same time as you use the loader.

If you do go with the external pump, please let me know what make model and set up you used, as I am looking at doing something similar.

Thanks,
Karl

I have a 1958 or 9 Dexta , serial 957E33616 which has a loader made by Sherman Products, Royal Oak, MI . Model 1403, unknown whether it was mfg to fit a Fordson . Has pump mounted in front of "grille" driven off front pulley. Suspect but don't know that you could use the internal hydraulics with the optional (or newer) lift control unit. My tractor also has a Sherman Backhoe and for these has a fender shaped hydraulic reservoir inside (mechanical side not tire side) the left fender. ..I'm just learning about them myself, no practical experience.

I forget the series number, but yes you can. You will have to put one off of an 8n or so. The Dexta loader is just like it. It mounts below the radiator and has pipes or brackets that extend backwards to below the rear axle for rear mounts.
I don't remember the front mount exactly, but it's the same as an 8N.

I forgot to say to be sure to use the newer style loader on it so that you can get on and off the tractor without climbing over from the rearend.
The new style has side brackets moved forward so that you get on and off tractor without all the climb over.
