Thank you Don and Brian. Chaulk up my lack of knowlege to having led a sheltered life. I didn't know there was any thing b/4 or after the 48 8N till I started exploring a neighbors cache of old iron. Fordsons with steel wheels in varying degrees of rust, maybe 2 or 3 of them best I can tell. Anyone looking for anything for one I can check or give you address if he gives me permision as he has no puter.

Cy:

Fordson tractors were produced at the Rouge plant in Dearborn from 1918 until 1927. The basic Fordson tractor design was produced in limited numbers in 1917 for the British Ministry of Munitions but were not bearing the Fordson name yet. The Fordson production in the U.S. ceased in 1927 because Mr. Ford needed plant room to produce the Model A automobile, which came out in 1928. The Fordson Model F tractor plant equipment and sheet metal dies were shipped to Cork, Ireland and eventually Ford opened a plant in Dagenham, England. Ford did not produce a tractor in the United States from 1927 until 1939 with the introduction of the infamous 9n Ford tractor/Ferguson system 3 point hitch.

CY,
All Ford's tractors were Fordsons in Europe until 1963-64. Then the name was changed to Ford. Seems way back in the early years before Henry really got into production some one registered the name Ford as a tractor producer hence Henry Ford and Son (Fordson).
regards
Brian
