Hello all, I have a chance to buy a Fordson Dexta from a co-worker. He says he only wants about five hundred dollars for it and added it has a crack in the trans. housing right on the bottom ( spider web type crack like it was high centered one time ). Says it run three years ago ( three cylinder diesel) and has good rubber and tin. My question is: how hard are parts to find? and....do any of you know of good web sites dealing with this model.
I haven't seen the thing yet and don't know the year it was made but it seems the Dexta was made for just a few years in England...right?
Thanks a bunch for any help....

Don
The Dexta is a very good tractor when it's in good shape. There are plenty of parts available and they are simple to work on. A repair manual is very affordable and available for it, and easily understood.
The 3 cylinder diesel is a Perkins diesel and it will give many hours of good service.
The hairline crack you spoke of will normally weld back easily. It could be a high center crack or sometimes they cracked from being stuck and pulling out of boggs.
The only parts I have had a problem locating were gears in the differential.
The post below yours on this page is from Oscar. Open it up and go to his website for some photos and info as you research the Dexta.

I have monitered this site for about 2-3 years and have never seen anyone with Dexta problems that could'nt be solved, or hunting parts that could'nt be found.
I am biased because I do like the Dexta, and wish you every good luck with yours.

I agree with Burrhead's comments. I'm biased about Dexta's too: they're great little tractors. $500,- seems a tad high, but not unreasonably so. Try to talk it down a little.
