Transmission woes?

Six months ago I had the clutch replaced in my '59 Dexta. Recently I've been having trouble getting the tranmission into reverse. When I shift into reverse and begin to release the clutch the engine labors, but the tractor doesn't move. I've not let the clutch all the way out in this situation because it almost feels like it would be in reverse and forward simultaneously. I usually can get it into reverse if I shift back into first and gently ease it back to reverse again. Anybody know what's going on? Is this related to my new clutch? Any help appreciated.

NCMAL,
Sounds like you are on the right track with the two gears at once. The selector mechanism and ball on the bottom of the gear lever is worn and this is allowing this to happen. I have built up the ball on the bottom of the gear stick with weld on many a Dexta.
regards
Brian
