JC,
The Fordson Major Diesel tractor was introduced in 1952 along with a kerosene and a petrol version. They were built in Fords factory at Dagenham, England, from 1952 through to 1964 when the plant was moved to Basildon and Ford changed the tractor to a "world" one.
The FMD soon outsold the other versions and the kerosene and petrol versions fell by the wayside. Apart from the original New Fordson Major there were changes to horse power with the modified engine, upgrades to the Power Major and on through the "orange wheeled" Super Major of 1960 to the final "Grey Wheeled Supers" of 1963. By this time Fords had fitted draft control on the hydraulics but had still kept a basic transmission that dates back to 1945.
Hope this answers some of your questions.
regards
Brian
