I am finishing up my latest Super Major and switching on the frame for a 712 Ford loader to it from a dead Super Major I've had. I am painting the tractor and switching the wheel weights. Mounted with loaded tires they are heavy suckers!

I've had some luck in this project. I found a tight front end (tight enough to be temporarily siezed) for $10 at an auction. One of my SM's was missing the right side badge, the other the left. That guy Murphy wasn't always right.

In a couple of days I'll rig the loader on and get the whole new paint job into a manurey pen. I better take the picture first.

I wonder if you other guys have a favorite part of restoration. Finding parts? Cleaning? Painting? Just talking about it?

Is there a source out there for this part? Feel free to call me at 734-854-5181 if you have anything to share.

John,
The bit I like is getting them running well and using them. I used to have a thing about cars, get a beat up looking one then tune the engine and drive line.
Gave the sports car boys a suprise when a Mk 2 Ford Cortina could beat them away from the traffic lights. I feel that way about my tractors. My Major crackles when it is pulling hard and ticks over like a clock. This gives me the big kick.
I am not too worried about the paint and tin work unless I am going to be showing them. I am a bit of a purist too. I do not like to see fibre glass parts on my tractors and if something fails, I search the breakers yard or farmers store sheds for the near original part. We are lucky to still have a lot of parts lying around. In our town we have a second hand dealer who also buys up old stock from dealers.
I have a bit of a job on at the moment with a Nuffield 4/65 and Farmhand Loader. Will post pictures when I get some.
regards
Brian
