I'm so unknowledgeable (ignorant really) Has anybody written a good book on Fordson start to finish ? Spanish Majors, never heard of 'em (saw Nellie's on his personal page)Am learning to roll with the punches on this computer deal- hope the change was not influenced by whineing and complaining-I think Sir Brian speaks well for us all on that account.

Helton,
Do not forget that we have been living Majors for years. I started with my first one when I was 10 47 years ago. I used it every night to grind feed for the cattle and pigs on the farm. It was either that or a Series 1 Field Marshall. So if you are just starting with them we have a few years on you. The thing I like about this site is the way everyone does not mind answering questions or putting in their say. I have learnt things from Steven that are not in my official books from Ford. And Oscar and Don have a great knowlege of different tractors such as the Dexta. When everyone posts, the range of experience and knowlege is fantastic. Then we have J-P to keep us on the straight and narrow.
I certainly hope that Kim was not influenced by dis-satisfied persons. The other site did have its advantages but she must have been under a terrific load this past few weeks. Could be everyone wanted too much too quickly.
Sorry waffling again. Spanish Majors. In 1964 at the end of the Super Major, production of tractors was moved to Basildon, Antwerp and Highland Park. At Dagenham, the home of the Fordson tractor since the move from Cork in Ireland, the line was closed, dismantled and shipped to a Spanish factory jointly owned by Ford and Massey Ferguson. There it was set up and commenced to build the Super under the name Edbro. This tractor was carried on and modified with Perkins engines right up to the present day although now the Super has been superceded by a MF based unit as Massey bought out the Ford bit. Most were coloured blue and silver but red and grey took over later on. The "whole Super" influence finished about 1976 when the engine became a Perkins.
Edbro engines were imported into this country by Ford dealers as replacement units for original Supers.
Most of the books I have seen tend to feature the American Ford tractors rather than the Major and Dexta. We have two books however from Stuart Gibbard called The Ford Tractor Story 1917 to 1964 and The Ford Tractor Story 1964 to 1999. These are excellent books but a little expensive. Well written and the two books have over 700 photos.
About £30.00 each (English).
regards
Brian
