This old Fordson F is what I think to be a 1925 or a 1926.
It is not running, and the old buzz coil box is gone. I have heard they will run off of a mag.
What kind is needed for the F?
Where can I find parts like radiator core, hand crank handle, mag,ect...?
It is mostly complete, just need to get it running.
Thanks in advance!

Hi: Your Model F Fordson has the magneto located in the flywheel. Was not sure if you were referring to mounting an aftermarket external magneto or what you meant in your post. You will need a coil box and 4 good coils and wiring harness from the mag post to the coil box and from the coil box to the timer at the lower right front corner of the engine. Now, aftermarket distributors were available making the timer unnecessary.

Some better radiator shops would be able to make a new radiator core... it will be a bit pricey. Original ones can many times be reconditioned if they are not just really destroyed.

Cranks should not be too hard to find from other Fordson collectors. I most likely would have one around if you do not find one near you.
If you do get the tractor to the point you have fire and fuel... be sure that spark is retarded and pull up on the crank in quarter turns and keep your thumb and all fingers on the same side of the crank handle. Don't grip the crank with thumb on one side and fingers wrapped around the handle. Model F's can be dangerous to the unsuspecting.... because of the worm drive, you cannot pull them to start them. I would suggest, if you have a belt pulley, to belt it up after you've tended to the mag, the coils, have fuel and carburetor ready. Belting a Model F when first trying to start it after reconditioning everything is the easiest, and safest method to see if she's going to fire. Be sure the belt is folded in order to turn the engine clockwise. This procedure does however, require another tractor with a flat belt pulley.

Always glad to hear another Fordson is being resurrected. There is a way you can check to see if you internal mag is working before you lose 10 lbs try starting it. (by the way good tips from first follow up). You can't be too careful. Think retard-retard-retard before starting. Also, make sure your wires from the timer to coil box are in good shape. A short can make you re-think the need to continue. Back to the mag. Try removing the spark plugs to eliminate compression, attach a circut tester to the mag terminal and spin away. If the tester lights up, your ready to move on to coils, wires, new plugs etc. If you just want to try starting it, use a regular 12 volt battery. Disconect the Mag terminal wire (very important) from the Mag terminal post and connect it to the positive terminal on battery. Ground the negitive battery terminal to the eng/trans housing. Remember, retard-retard-retard before cranking in the manner previously advised. Note: do not connect battery power to the mag terminal post. If for some reason the terminal is defective and you mag is good, you'll be creating a ton of work for yourself recharging the mag. Good luck RLL
