I have recently purchased a FORDSON MAJOR DIESEL in working condition, not restored.
It starts and runs fine . After using it to mow
for about 12 hrs. it began to overheat, and started popping out the exhaust. Now it does this all the time, and gets warm very quickly. It still seems to have plenty of power, and is not hard to start at all. It also seems to be idleing faster than it was. The popping happens when there is no load on the engine, or when I throtle down. If anyone has had a similar problem, and could help me with this, I would like to hear from you. thank you JIM

Jim,
Sounds like you may have a sticking exhaust valve, broken exhaust valve spring, or even worn rockers. Look in this area first by removing the valve cover.

Brian
