I have just found a 1923 Fordson F.
It has a mag on it and the coil box is gone.
It is not running.
My question is the mag has four holes together for the spark plug wires, and one hole above them for what I guess would be a coil, right???

I have never had anything with a mag and I need to know how this thing needs to be wired, set up or whatever it needs to work.

I do know that when you turn the hand crank I hear the mag click, I don't know what it means but I have heard other tractor owners say they did'nt hear the mag click when they were attempting to crank their tractors, and turned it over again until they heard the click, and then cranked it.

Thanks for any help, just want to get this old F running so I can start the restoration.

gussing by your short description i would guess that you have a American-Bosch magneto that has a inspection hole to check the timing above the spark plug wires. a magneto does not use a coil. the clicking noise is the impulse catching and releasing, this spins the armature faster creating spark at low speed (cranking). all you need to do is install some spark plug wires, provided the mag produces spark. if the magneto is not operating it will have to be removed and repaired
