I live in Portugal and I just bought a FSM which serial number engraved on the engine block above the Simms injection pump is P94720. The tractor in some aspects is rather different from regular Super Majors :

1) There is only one brake Pedal that acts on both drum brakes located in the end of the half shafts near the rear wheels. (By the way the brakes are very inefective)

2) The hidrolics are also quit simpler than what I find in other FSM's and in the literature I have: There is only a lever that is not paralel to the tractor longitundinal Axis as usual but is tranversal. There is no draught control or auxiliar service control valve.

3) Hidraulics only works when PTO is engaged. (I think this is usual)

4) The rest of the tractor is quite identical to FSM. I suspect this could be a reconstruction of a older Fordson Model or an Industrial version??

Could any one help me to identify this tractor

Thanks
Luis

Luis,
Sounds like you have an Industrial version and it is either a Power Major or an FMD.
On the front axle, right at the front you will find some numbers and letters. There are also ones on the block and on the gearbox housing near the clutch linkage. Another set is under the seat on the hydraulic lift. These are all cast into the housings and are the casting codes. Post these and we will see what we can do.
The engine number sounds like a special for Portugal and is not in the books that I have. May be someone else can help.
regards
Brian

Brian,

I take a little longer than I expect to get the casting numbers but here are the results:

I didnīt find the casting number in the front axle, the other ones are as follows:

Engine Serial number : P94720

Engine head casting number : 60506 ( the second zero could be a 8 ) J3167 (or J3157 difficult to read)

Engine Block casting number : EIADDN6015 T3 Under the seat (Hidraulics case): M3B

Gearbox : /C13F

Simms injection pump sn# : GPE 4A75 S 497

Note the tractor as plate in the firewall that identifies this tractor as being made in England.

Luis: Your tractor is definately an FMD Fordson Major Diesel. The engine serial number is not one that I can trace in order to tell you exactly what year it was manufactured. It would have to be somewhere between a 1952 and a 1956.

Don and Luis,
My books give Hydraulics October 1958 and Gearbox March 1961 so sounds like another Fordson ASP like John Paul's one. It could most likely be an Edbro engine but I too have no details on these.

PS. Don I am jealouse of the Doe but will send picture of various Counties etc when developed.

Brian,

The casting code in the engine block is: 60506 j3557

I have to check the remaining casting codes in the tractor but I only can do that next Thursday. I will post them to you then.

Regards
Luis
